May 21 is last date for filing to run for Seattle Mayor. Jenny Durkan is not running again. Today, we learnt that the President of the Council Lorena Gonzalez plans to run.
I hope this election is vigorously contested as Seattle needs a robust exchange of differing strategies for governance. It’s a critical election.
We are experiencing unprecedented homelessness. The Council and the Mayor are at loggerheads. SPD has to regain trust with the public and needs a consistent message from the Mayor and Council. Protests that turn into property damage requires a uniform response. The business community is downright bearish on downtown.
We need a complex problem solver, a collaborator, a unifier. That’s a hard ask in this divided city.
